I think that a lot of the reason Jarvis has become so human is because Tony treats him like he’s human. Tony talks to Jarvis in a very colloquial way. He says “you up?” when he knows damn well that Jarvis is operational. He says “throw a little hot-rod red in there” instead of “paint components x, y, and z with red paint #20.” Tony treats all his machinery like that—Dummy and You, especially—and Jarvis is no exception.

Jarvis has become much more human since Iron Man 1. He actually displayed emotions in Iron Man 3—specifically when he feared for Tony’s life, his voice sounded terribly frightened, and in instances like the second gif where he said “I need to sleep” and not “My battery is depleted.” Jarvis has grown and changed, as any self-aware creature does. He has become human because he is treated as such.

It’s strange how, despite our primary basic need being our own survival, we can get to a point where we’d willingly give our lives for someone else.

How our feelings can get so intertwined with someone else’s that their joy is our joy, and their pain is our pain, and we’d do anything to make them happy. But I wonder if there isn’t some selfishness inherent in that? Since we want to keep them from suffering at least in part because we know we will also suffer if they do.

Are we naturally independent creatures choosing to defy nature and submit ourselves to willing dependence on others?

And we like the feeling of dependence, of sharing even the negative emotions of someone else, to the point where we couldn’t imagine life any other way. For some reason, we like needing someone, and we’ve started to identify more as “social creatures” and “creatures of emotion” rather than as “survivalists” or “pragmatists.”

So we have a dependency…on dependency? And that’s the complex, nonsensical, wonderful thing that we call love?

Maybe. I don’t know.

Holocaust jokes aren’t funny, Anne Frankly they’re really offensive. I was also gonna make a gay joke, butt fuck it. Cum on, they’re just wrong. Vagina jokes ARE funny, you were just ovary acting.
